Avia 1956 - 1959

Also in Eastern-Europe the responsible state authorities did see the need for mass-transportation. Most famous for this is the Trabant from the GDR. But also in other countries there have been initiatives for small cars for their comrade workers. Amongst them the twin project in the CSSR of Avia and Moravan.

Both car had strong similarities : both from Dural, both developed by aircraft industries, both 350cc 2-stroke engine based on the popular Jawa engine as applied in the Jawa motorbikes, both sliding roof, both driver placed central in the front. From the Moravan 2 or 3 prototypes have been built, at least 1 still to exists, from the Avia 10 prototypes have been made, at least 3 still to exist. ( prod.no. 3, 6 and 10 ).

About the Avia have been many publications, the car has been shown many times in public, magazines etc. This must have been a very serious project.

mdrawing

This drawing of the 1st prototype shows a rather symetric car, body parts could be exchanged in order to reduce costs of moulds.
However the next prototypes didn't show this advantage anymore.
